The Sri Lanka Navy Wednesday rejected claims that its personnel attack Indian fishermen when they stray into Sri Lankan waters.
Navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya said the navy strictly follows international laws when dealing with maritime issues.
He said as part of the duties entrusted to the navy, those violating Sri Lanka’s maritime laws were arrested and handed over to police.
“Some people make statements claiming we attack Indians just to meet their own political goals,” the spokesman said.
A total of 64 Indian fishermen are in Sri Lankan custody. India says it is trying to solve the issue through diplomatic channels.
