Stage set for MCR Day parade

The city of Manchester is gearing up to celebrate Manchester Day which is taking place on Sunday June 14. This year’s theme, ‘Game On!,’ will transform the city into an animated playground of music, outdoor theatre and procession in celebration, leisure, play and Manchester’s place  in the global gaming world, reports Asian Lite , UK’s popular newspaper for British Asians.

Over 2,500 performers and artist will bring Manchester city centre to life in a feast with an array of artists working on the parade, along with volunteers from community groups working on the artworks, say the organisers Manchester City Council.

Amazing structure is being created for Manchester Day. Its creative heart, the WOW workshop, is where internationally renowned arts company Walk the Plank will bring together artists and communities in the months leading up to Manchester Day to create some of the spectacular costumes and structures that will be part of the event.

Preparations are underway to transform Manchester once again into a massive carnival for the sixth Manchester Day – and some big names have signed up as proud sponsors of the event.

Returning on Sunday 14 June, this year’s Game on theme will see both computer games and those of a more traditional variety given imaginative interpretations as more than 2,500 participants – from more than 80 community groups – take to the streets for a spectacular parade through the city and entertainment in the city squares.parade

Laing O’Rourke return as principle sponsors, and they will be throwing themselves headlong into the spirit of the day. They will be hosting fun times for all the family at their mini event village on Albert Square – including brand new virtual reality technology and family friendly building challenges.

Tens of thousands of people filled the streets to enjoy last year’s Manchester Day that generated a significant financial boost for the local economy.
