Manchester is gearing up a spectacular street dance performance. Anyone aged 10 and over from Manchester has until 12 June to sign up to join a performance as as part of a spectacular light and movement event on The Quays
Blue Blue Entertainment is an award-winning hip-hop dance company founded in London by Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy and composer Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante choreographed the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympic Games. As joint Artistic Directors, they work together on the creation and development of all of Boy Blue Entertainment’s productions and projects. The Company is proud to be home to some of the UK’s most sought-after hip-hop artists.
Boy Blue Entertainment, the dance company that made heroes of hundreds of dancers at the centre of Danny Boyle’s London Olympic Games opening ceremony, is urging everyone to join Chandni Patel (24) and Solmaz Rohani (33) from Salford and one hundred other dancers in a mass-participation ‘street dance’ as part of the Mini Burblefinale on Saturday 18 July at MediaCityUK.
Commissioned by Quays Culture, a constellation of 300 giant balloons will be lit by individual LEDs and unfurled to create a remarkable, giant illuminated floating sculpture of changing colours controlled by the public via iPad devices.
Dancers from all around Greater Manchester will then take their places and groove along to a newly commissioned urban soundtrack, as the sculpture moves with the breeze, offering dancers and spectators the experience of a lifetime.
Anyone over the age of 10 from Greater Manchester is invited to take part, with no prior experience necessary. Their dancing skills will be refined by the Boy Blue experts in exchange for nothing more than their time, asking them to attend a once a week rehearsal for six weeks. Our taster workshops this past weekend were a big hit, with local people captivated by Boy Blue’s incredible energy and a sneak peek into the fresh new choreography – and the call out for people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities to join the team and make Mini Burble an unforgettable night is still open. The event will be free to participate in and free to attend, offering the thrill of live performance to everyone from across Greater Manchester – but it’s your last chance to get involved!”
Mini Burble will take place from 14 – 18 July as part of a festival of events happening on The Quays. Designed, developed and installed by London-based artist team,Umbrellium, the appearance of the sculpture on MediaCityUK will be its first trip to the north of England, having been deployed previously in Dubai, Hong Kong, Paris and Barcelona.
