Chiltern Council gets first British Asian chief

Britain will witness a unique event tomorrow. Cllr. Mrs Mimi Harker OBE will be invested in the office of Chairperson of Chiltern District Council on Wednesday.  She will be the first British Asian councillor to serve as Chairperson on Chiltern District Council.

This is the beginning of Cllr. Harker’s fifth term as councillor . She was first elected in 1999. During the 16 years, Cllr. Harker has already served on the council, she has been chairperson of various committees, served as a cabinet member for nine years (2004-2013), served as Mayor of Amersham from 2011-2013 and served the last two years as Vice Chairman of Chiltern District Council.

Cllr Harker is passionate about community issues and spearhead several campaigns on issues that matter to the community.  Her achievements include being responsible for the 12A Film Classification and the ‘Save Our Post Office ‘ campaign.

Cllr. Harker has raised money for local good causes and supports many local charities. She is well known not only across the district but across Buckinghamshire and is renowned for her enthusiasm and commitment to everything she is involved in and with.
