Birmingham Airport is celebrating the first anniversary of Air India relaunching its services at a mega event on August 1.
Mr Pankaj Srivastava, Commercial Director, of Air India will attend the special event to mark the occasion. Air India is also celebrating its 65th year of India-UK operations.
Within six months of its launch, India’s national carrier crossed 50,000 passenger mark on board over 200 Dreamliner flights between Birmingham and India. Asian community in the Midlands is grateful to Air India for linking them with Delhi and Amritsar.
“The four times a week service to Delhi and Amritsar, using the brand new B787-800 Dreamliner aircraft, with two configurations of business and economy class isn’t just ideal for those visiting friends and relatives, but also offers corporate travellers connections across India, Asia, Europe and North America from Delhi. Air India will soon be part of Star Alliance which gives passengers a choice of world-wide connections,” said William Pearson, Birmingham Airport’s Aviation Development Director.
Vishwanath Panyam, Air India station manager at Birmingham Airport, said India’s flag carrier is popular amongst the region’s Asian community, for business and leisure passengers alike.
Air India is operating prestigious Boeing 787-8 ‘Dreamliner’ four times weekly each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from Birmingham. Arriving from Amritsar and Delhi into Birmingham at 1800 hours and departing to Delhi and Amritsar from Birmingham at 2130 hours.
Birmingham is only the second UK airport to operate dedicated Boeing 787 scheduled services. The 256 seat B787-8 series aircraft has a split cabin, consisting of 18 business class and 238 economy seats.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a long-range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner which entered into commercial service in October last year. Boeing states that it is the company’s most fuel-efficient airliner and the world’s first major airliner to use composite materials as the primary material in the construction of its airframe. The 787 has been designed to be 20% more fuel efficient than the 767 it is to replace.
