UK to pay tribute to Indian maestros

Surtarang, the radio programme in Wolverhampton, is celebrating the 80th birthday of Dr Radha Viswanathan, daughter of the legend M S Subbulakshmi on December 11.

The show which will be aired on Gorgeous Live, will pay tribute to some of the maestros of Indian classical music, such as the late M S Subbulakshmi, the Queen of Carnatic Music, Pt Ravi Shankar and Pt Manas Chakraborty, who passed away in December 2012.

Initiated, designed and produced by Wolverhampton-based couple, Sistachar Sarcar, the former chief executive of Surdhwani and his wife Maitreyee Sarcar, Surtarang was first broadcasted on April 4, 2007 on Wolverhampton City Radio –101.8 FM

According to Sarcars, Surtarang will celebrate the day with the music of M S Subbulakshmi, Dr Radha Viswanathan and her granddaughter S.Aishwarya, Pt Ravi Shankar along with sarod legend, Dr Ali Akbar Khan, tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha, great violin maestro M S Gopalakrishnan, flute maestro Pt Vijay Raghav Rao, Ustad Sultan Khan, Dr Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Vidwan N Ravikiran as well as some outstanding rising stars like slide guitarist Dr Kamala Shankar and violinist Milind Raikar.
