After the St. Jude storm in October last year created havoc and damaged a number of trees in the UK, members of the Feltham History Group planted the first of 1,000 new trees at Feltham Green, High Street Feltham in Hounslow.

The worst damage was caused by trees being brought down by the wind falling onto buildings, cars and powerlines.
In Hounslow, London, two people were killed when a gas explosion destroyed three houses and damaged two after the storm blew a tree down.
Councillor Sachin Gupta, Hounslow Council’s cabinet member for Public Health and Leisure, joined members of the Feltham History Group to help with the planting, which comes shortly after the anniversary of the St Jude’s storm.
Councillor Gupta explains: “The St Jude’s storm damaged or destroyed a number of trees in the borough and we are anxious not only to replace those lost but also to do much more to green the borough for residents. In all we will plant over 1,000 trees in the next four years in our parks, open spaces and along our highways. I’m very grateful to the volunteers who braved the bad weather to help.”
The first 25 trees including mature varieties of black poplar, crab apple and oak, are being planted this week by Carillion Integrated Services on behalf of London Borough of Hounslow at Feltham Green, Stamford Brook Common, and Bedfont Green.
