Tom Holland, a 19-year-old from Kingston-upon-Thames, has been chosen to play Peter Parker in a new Spider-Man movie, which is set for release in 2017.
Best known for playing the lead character in the West End version of Billy Elliot, he recently appeared in the popular UK TV series Wolf Hall.
Tom Rothman, Sony Motion Pictures chairman, said: “For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we’re off to a roaring start.”
Some Spider-Man fans on Twitter have claimed that Holland is “too young” for the part. Others have lamented that a black actor wasn’t chosen to take the lead reports Sky News.
This young British actor is about to learn that with great power comes great responsibility.
