Tributes paid to Nehru

Former prime minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi  paid floral tributes to India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 125th birth anniversary.

“Our tributes to the man who built the foundations of modern India-Pandit Nehru on his 125th birth anniversary,” Congress said in a tweet.

Manmohan Singh, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi offered floral tributes at Shanti Vana – the memorial of Nehru on the banks of river Yamuna.

As Nehru’s birthday is celebrated as children’s day, school children withe tri-colour balloons gathered at the memorial to pay tribute.

Nehru was born Nov 14, 1889. He was the first prime minister of the India and remained in office until his death in 1964.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi  paid tribute to the first prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru on his 125th birth anniversary.

“Today we mark the 125th birth anniversary of our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. My tributes to him,” Modi said in a tweet here.

“We remember Pandit Nehru’s efforts during the freedom struggle and his role as the first prime minister of India,” added Modi.
