Asian Lite’s Ragasudha Vinjamuri attended a reception hosted by the Speaker of House of Commons to mark the contribution of Punjabis to Britain’s socio-economic sectors
The Punjabi Society of The British Isles celebrated Punjabi Culture in Britain at the Speaker’s House in the State Rooms of the Houses of Parliament. Speaker Mr John Bercow MP has given a welcome speech and praised noted Punjabi Dr Rami Ranger’s achievements. Rami Ranger not only stands tall in the wider community, but also reaches out to others in need, the speaker added.
Baroness Sandip Verma expressed pride not only for hailing from Punjab, but also for being British Punjabi. She spoke on the strong representation of Punjabi community in Britain in terms of size, numbers and prosperity.
Dr Rami Ranger paid his respect to womanhood, and recollected his mother’s efforts in bringing him up as a single parent. He also paid tribute to those Indian soldiers who fought for the world alongside the British on the 100th year of the first world war this year. Mr Keith Vaz MP was highly applauded to be one of the finest politicians Britain has, and who British Indian community should be immensely proud of.
Several high profile dignitaries have graced the occasion including Lord Mohamed Sheikh, Richard Harrington MP, Paul Uppal MP, Deputy High Commissioner of India Dr. Virander Paul, Coordination Minister from High Commission of India Mr S.S.Sidhu, Tony Deep Wouhra MBE- Chairman and Founder of East End Foods, Meera Kaushik MBE, Ranbir Suri Founder-member of the British Asian Conservative Link.
