Greater Manchester’s Police and Crime Commissioner will join local people to remember the fallen this Remembrance Sunday.
Tony Lloyd will join the Mayor of Bolton for the civic service and parade at Victoria Square in Bolton town centre and to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph.
Tony said: “Remembrance Day is a time for communities across Greater Manchester to come together, reflect on the past and the present, and pay our respects to the men and women who sacrificed so much for our liberty and freedom. I will be honoured to stand with the people of Manchester to mark this solemn day and encourage people across Greater Manchester to join me, whether that’s by attending a ceremony or wearing a poppy.”
Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Jim Battle will join the civic procession, led by the Mayor of Bury, to the War Memorial where he will lay a wreath before attending the service at Bury Parish Church.
Jim said: “I was honoured to help launch the poppy appeal in Bury a few weeks ago, so it’s fitting that I will be standing with the people of the town this Remembrance Sunday to pay my respects to those who served their country and those who continue to serve today.”
Bolton – Bolton’s Civic Remembrance Service and Parade will start at approximately 10.45am at Victoria Square. The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Martin Donaghy, will be joined by Canon Matt Thompson, the Vicar of Bolton, who will lead the service. Following the two-minute silence, wreaths will be laid at the Cenotaph and there will be a march past by 216 Battery. The parade will then proceed to the memorial in Nelson Square for a second service.
Bury – The Mayor of Bury will lead the processions from Bury Town Hall at 10.30am and proceed along Knowsley Street, Haymarket Street and Market Street to the War Memorial at Market Place. Two minutes silence will be observed at11am and the mayor, along with representatives of the armed forces and civilian organisations, will lay wreaths on the memorial. This will be followed by the service of remembrance at Bury Parish Church, followed at 12.15pm by a “march past” of the various detachments with the mayor taking the salute.
Jim will also attend the Greater Manchester Police Remembrance Day Service at Sedgley Park on Tuesday 11 November.
