Targeting the BJP without naming it, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday said some political parties were trying to cause a communal divide in the state and warned that her party will take strong action against those fomenting riots.
“There are some political parties which are trying to create a division between Hindus and Muslims. I urge the people to ensure they do not succeed. Do not fall into their trap,” Banerjee said at a rally in Gangarampur of South Dinajpur district.
She said her government would not tolerate any such activities. “We will come down strongly against those trying to cause riots.”
With the Bharatiya Janata Party increasingly becoming active in the state in its bid to seize the main opposition space from the Left Front, Banerjee has been targeting the party in the recent months.
