Jumbo’s gets holidays in TN & Puducherry

Jumbos belonging to various temples, mutts and forest department in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will go on annual vacation Dec 11-Jan 27, the Tamil Nadu government said .

The 98 elephants, out of which 43 belong to temples/mutts and Nagore Dargah in Tamil Nadu and two to Puducherry temples while the rest are with the Tamil Nadu forest department – will go on 48 day long wellness camp in two places, a government statement said.

The elephants owned by temples/mutts/dargah will attend the camp near Vana Bhadrakali Amman temple near Coimbatore, while the forest department jumbos will attend camps at Mudumalai, Annaimalai and Vandalur Zoo.

At the camps, the elephants will be given special food to rejuvenate them while their physical and mental health would also be monitored.

The mahouts would also be trained on maintaining the animals.
