The High Commissioner of India Mr. Ranjan Mathai hosted a
reception in honour of the visiting Indian cricket team at his residence. The Indian cricket team is currently on a visit to the UK for a five-match Test series, five-match ODI series and one T20 against England in July-September, 2014. This is the first 5-match test tour by an Indian side since 1959.
The team comprising Captain M.S. Dhoni, Murali Vijay, Shikhar
Dhawan, Gautam Gambhir, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane,
Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami,
Ishwar Pandey, Ishant Sharma, Stuart Binny, Varun Aaron, Wriddhiman Saha,
Pankaj Singh, along with Team Manager Sunil Dev, Coach Duncan Fletcher and
other members of the support staff attended the reception. The High
Commissioner was also honoured to receive former Indian cricketers Dilip
Vengsarkar, Dilip Doshi and Faroukh Engineer.
Prominent guests at the reception included Mr. Matthew Hancock MP,
Minister of State at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills,
Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change and
Treasurer, All Party Parliamentary Cricket Group, the Commonwealth Secretary
General Mr. Kamalesh Sharma, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh Mohamed
Mijarul Quayes, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Dr. Chris Nonis, Mr. Mike
Brearley, Chief Executive- England and Wales Cricket Board, senior officials
of Councillors and the members of the Indian community.
