A British-Pakistani plastic surgeon has been suspended from work after being accused of attacking a female patient at his London office. Dr Mohammed Jawad, who is world-renowned as a reconstructive surgeon working with acid attack victims in Pakistan and subject of an award winning documentary, is alleged to have attacked the unnamed Polish woman during a consultation in 2012.
The alleged victim told the Daily Mail that Dr Jawad, 55, had “downed a bottle of vodka” before asking her to dance to Julio Iglesias song at his surgery in London’s famous Harley Street.
She told the Daily Mail he then rubbed her neck before wrapping his leg around hers and the incident had left her feeling “suicidal”. Britain’s doctor’s regulator, the General Medical Council (GMC) suspended Dr Jawad soon after the allegations emerged in November 2013. But Jawad, is contesting the allegations.
He shot to fame in 2008 after carrying out a radical new reconstructive procedure on British model Katie Piper who was the victim of a horrific acid attack at the hands of her spurned boyfriend. He also regularly travels to Pakistan to conduct surgeries on victims of acid attack. His work led to him becoming subject of Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s acclaimed documentary ‘Saving Face’, Pakistan’s first Oscar winner.
