Bands in the Parks, which is now in it’s 19th year, sees local brass bands take turns to perform traditional music along with some modern material for visitors at Leicester parks.

The free event, which will kick off at Abbey Park and Western Park this Sunday (June 14), runs until September 14. Most of the bands will play between 3pm and 4pm , says Leicester Council press release.

Croft Silver Band will play at Abbey Park, while Peter Crebbin’s Cool Swing Band will strike a chord with visitors at Western Park this Sunday from 3pm until 4pm.

Stewart Doughty, Leicester City Council parks manager, said “I am delighted that so many local bands volunteer their time on a Sunday to visit our lovely parks to show case their music skills, it’s a great opportunity for the bands to introduce new members to an audience and allows the junior bands a platform to perform to a live audience.

“The bands appeal to all age groups and the events provide an ideal opportunity for families to get out onto their parks to have a picnic and enjoy the music.”
