The Lok Sabha was adjourned twice during question hour after members from Telangana raised the demand for a separate high court in the state.
Soon after the house assembled, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan rejected the motion for adjournment moved by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on the issue of the court and by the Congress and the AAP over the molestation and death of a girl in Moga in Punjab.
Former Punjab chief minister Amrinder Singh, the Congress’ deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, and Aam Aadmi Party’s Bhagwant Maan moved adjournment motions to discuss the Moga case but the speaker rejected the plea.
The speaker continuously asked the members to raise the issue during zero hour but the TRS protests went on.
Some TRS members proceeded towards the speaker’s chair, leading to an adjournment of the house for 10 minutes and then till 12 noon.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu told the house that the government was ready for a separate high court in Telangana but the matter was sub-judice.
