Ragasudha Vinjamuri writes Guru Pawar’s Triveni blends fine music, dance and expressions
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan London in collaboration with Padma Shri Guru Pratap Pawar’s Triveni Dance Company hosted a mesmerising evening showcasing the finest Kathak performances.
Septuagenarian Guru Pawar has been performing since 57 years, and continues to dance and teach till date relentlessly. He received the prestigious Padma Shri award from the Government of India in 2008.
The program has opened with a beautiful dance on Shiva Panchakshari stotra by the disciples of Triveni Dance Company, with Abirami Eswar and Riaz Rhemtulla in lead roles of Shiva and Parvati.. Guru Pawar then presented glimpses of Krishna’s life including Kaliya serpent episode and killing of Kamsa, while excellently expressing Draupadi’s resentment in the vastrapaharan episode. This was followed by a graceful Tarana presented by his students. The second half of the evening started with alluring Hindustani vocal presentation by disciple of Chandrima Misra, singer Prabhat Rao. This followed by a solo dance by Riaz Rhemtulla on the composition Meri Suno including narratives in which prayers of Prahlad, Sita, Ahalya and people of Brindavan were differently answered.
