‘Passports to be fast-tracked’

Applications of people with an urgent need to travel abroad will get them fast-tracked without paying extra money, Theresa May, the Home Secretary announced.

Ukpassport-coverShe also said that people renewing their passports from overseas will be given a 12-month extension without passport officials having to undertaken detailed security checks, reports The Times.

May told the MPs that people applying for passports overseas for their wards to come to the UK will be provided travel documents to lessen the burden of the Passport Office.

However, she insisted families would have to provide “comprehensive proof” that they are the parents of the child, reported The Times.

May also signalled that the Passport Office could lose its quasi-independent status and be brought under the direct control of the Home Office as happened when she abolished the UK Border Agency.
