Mumbai attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, who was granted bail, has now been detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, a media report said .

A government source told Dawn that the government has also decided to appeal in superior courts against Lakhvi’s bail.

An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad granted bail to Lakhvi, who is among the seven people charged with planning and helping to carry out the Nov 26-29, 2008, Mumbai terror attack which left 166 people, imcluding many foreigners, dead and injured hundreds of others.

At the time of the 26/11 attack, Lakhvi was believed to be the operational head of the banned Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) that is accused by India of carrying out the strike.
India has strongly conveyed to Pakistan its sentiments on the release of Mumbai terrorist attack mastermind Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said .
The prime minister said in the Lok Sabha that the release on bail of the Lashkar-e-Taiba commander had come as a “shock” to “all those who believe in humanity”.

India’s approach towards Pakistan on the issue would be in tune with the sentiments expressed by Indian MPs, he added.
